Training!

So you want to know how to train? Most programs are 5-9 weeks long, but they arn't all easy so I wanted to give us 12 weeks (Starting Sept 16th 2012). That way if you miss some days you dont need to feel guilty, or if you feel a week was to hard, and you want to repeat thats an option too!

There are many programs and guides out there so please check out a full list of onces people are using, if you have one you'd like to see on there just let me know!  Below are a few of the ones I am personally following!

APPS:
C25K -  This app helps you through 9 week training program, where each week they get increasingly harder to help you build cardio. Works great for tredmills or running outside as it is time based interevals and you can set your own pace!

Runkeeper - This app is great if you have GPS, it can help you track your route, different elevations, and gives you nice little updates on your pace as you go. Its just fun to see how you do, Great for outdoor runners!

Websites -
Sparkpeople - Great for tracking food and workouts to see where you stack up each day/week. Great for tracking and easy to use, but takes some dedication to log in an track everything. There is also an app to help you track from a phone/ipod.
Spark People as has 4 Great Training Programs for all Levels of Training. From Recliner to Runner, just Walking, Beginner Programs, as well as a more advanced program!

Virtual 5k?! Say What!

So virtual 5k sounds crazy right? Well it is a little bit, but here's the Plan. Basically a Virtual 5k, is a way to cross the distances and be supportive group of people all ready to get out there and do something! Each week we will support each other in training, help our friends get motivated and get healthy.  Then the first week of December 2012, we see how far we have all come and have friends all over the world getting out there and being active by completing a 5k (3.1miles).

How to you join in!?
Step1:  Commit to TRYING to do a 5k walk/run.
Step 2: Fill out the form,- https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dG1SY0tzdlVuWGY2bS1IRHp3U3lPRUE6MQ this will be used to help with random prizes for participating.
Step 3: Each week you will fill out a form that will track your progress on training.  This will be complied each week to give you a updated totals overall! (Weeks Will Run Sunday to Monday, Starting on September 16th 2012)
Step 4: Keep up the hard work each week! This is about having fun, and getting healthy.  Don't be hard on yourself if you have a bad week.
Step 5: The first week of December (2-8th 2012) Do your 5K run, and Track your time on the final form.
Step 6: Be proud that you finished no matter what, and check in for results! (You'll be amazed at what you can accomplish in 12 weeks!)

Rules:
First and foremost, this is for FUN and to be motivated to get healthy (or stay healthy!)
Treadmills or being outside are both completely acceptable,  so is Walking, Jogging, or Running. its just good to get moving!
This isn't about watching the clock or trying to beat a time unless that is your PERSONAL goal.
This is all in good fun, anyone can participate! Lets be supportive and helpful and keep the bashing out of this.

Prizes!!!
Prizes will be randomly awarded each week just for participating and tracking your progress, any level of activity will be entered for prizes. Number of prizes will depend on what is donated.

Interested in Donating Prize? Please send me a message on Plurk (Rainlover1985) or Ravelry (Rainlover)!

Questions! Please ask away, I will make a list of FAQ's as they come in!
